Family vacation hacks: Reduce your stress levels by following these tips

I’m Alpman Ilker, a professional contractor, muscle and classic car enthusiast, and full-time dad. I love going on long trips with my family. I’d rather do that than anything else. However, I have to admit, it can be very tiring and at times, stressful. Any parent who’s reading will know what I’m talking about.

Because of this, I’ve put together a few tips on how to reduce your stress levels if you’re going on a vacation with your children.

Food, books, and handheld devices

On a trip, children can get pretty restless, and the constant “are-we-there-yet” can be incredibly irritating especially if you’ve driven for over four hours and you’re tired. However, if you bring along food, books, or handheld devices, these distractions can keep kids off your back, at least until you get to a rest spot, or your destination.

Stop-overs

While stop-overs may extend your travel time, it beats the monotony of staying inside the car. All of you will have the chance to go down, stretch a little and snack up. Choose stop-over points that are scenic and spacious so kids can release their energy by running around. It lessens their boredom as well.

Car-aoke

When you sense your children are starting to get restless, pop in a CD in the car radio, one with songs that all of you can sing along to. This is good for about 30 to 40 minutes. Remember, it’s all about lowering their energy levels and lessening the boredom. A tried-and-tested Alpman Ilker strategy.

Family activities parents should never take for granted

My name is Alpman Ilker. I’m husband and a father. Even though I have a full-time job, my family still takes priority over everything. I find it sad whenever I see parents who overlook the little things that make life worth living such as activities families can do together. With technology and smartphones taking up all our time and attention, it’s very easy to take for granted things that can bring families closer together.

Take for instance breakfast. I’ve often considered dinner to be the most important meal for a family because it’s where everyone gets to touch base after a long day – but breakfast is almost as important. It’s the time of day for families to share their plans for the day, and ask for assistance if they need any.

Another great activity, albeit one that requires constant supervision, is reorganizing furniture. I do it all the time. Sometimes, the wife and I even have our kids come up with the look of the living room before we move stuff around. It’s a great way to share our creative visions of what we want out of a house.

However, the ol’ Alpman Ilker favorite is one of the simplest things – a weekly family movie. What we do in the Ilker household is have one of us choose the movie of the week. After watching, we talk about the things we liked and didn’t like about it and how we would change the movie. It’s loads of fun.

Four reasons to teach kids about the importance of family

Support from the family is important regardless of one’s age. A family provides for the needs of one another, be it physical, mental, emotional, and even spiritual. Without their parents or guardians to look after them, children will be unable to survive and become the best version themselves.

Children must be taught the value of belonging in the family in ways they can understand. Parents should let them feel confident and unafraid to talk about their feelings and ideas, and they must never be shut down. Letting them know that they are important in building their confidence in their family. Alpman Ilker believes that kids must learn the value of family because family is everything. Through ups and downs, one’s family will always be there support and guide.

The right kind of support and guidance come from being in a family. While parents are not perfect, they are parents for a reason. They know how to care for and unconditionally love their children. It . Having a sense of family growing up can help a child build relationships with friends that can stand the test of time and sometimes distance.

Alpman Ilker, a father of two, knows that teaching kids about the importance of family gives way to the development of important qualities such as loyalty, honesty, responsibility, and accountability. Children will know that they will be held accountable for their actions and that their loyalty and honesty would only strengthen the relationships they have with their family and friends.

Can Pets Bring More Happiness To Your Home Life?

If you spend your time scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, I'm sure you've seen heartwarming stories about pets. It seems as if they're the perfect companions for kids and adults. But can pets really bring more happiness to your home life?

As a person who considers himself a veteran pet parent, my answer is yes. For my family, our golden retriever Doug is a source of joy and laughter. While having a pet is a huge responsibility, we enjoy training and taking care of him. To be honest, the adults usually bear most of the burden and the expenses. But seeing the kids grow up to be loving, patient, and caring is always rewarding.

I've read some studies that having pets in the home can help members connect with each other better. These furry friends also ease stress and the tension, while encouraging people to open up. However, this is mostly true for trained animals. When the pet is neglected or spoiled, it could even cause problems for the household.

It's true that welcoming pets in the home will affect the family dynamic. But in our case, it was for the better. It also helps that our dog isn't too frisky and knows how to behave around humans. Instead of spending our after-dinner hours doing separate things, everyone ends up hanging out in the living room to play with our dog. In this age of gadgets replacing face-to-face communication, my wife and I are grateful that we get to talk and bond with the kids before their bedtime.

Parks And Recreation: Colorado Parks The Family Will Enjoy

Colorado is home to millions of acres of parks (national, state, and other little-known ones) waiting to be explored. The good news is that adults aren’t the only ones who can enjoy them; they can also bring their kids to introduce to them the wonders of the outdoors.

Some perfect getaways in the Centennial State where families can spend the day together are the following:

Palmer Park

Located in the heart of suburban area of Colorado Springs is the 730-acre Palmer Park. And even with the busy backdrop, the elevation variation, vast expanse, and abundance of flora and fauna make the park’s visitors feel like they are in the wilderness. It is a great place for families to bond with one another because of the many facilities in the park, including a playground, pavilions for picnicking, sports fields, among others.

Scott Carpenter Park

This Colorado park is named after Boulder-native Scott Carpenter, a NASA astronaut. Installed in the park are space-themed equipment and a rocket-shaped jungle gym that children would enjoy. There is also an outdoor pool for those who want to cool down while basking in the view of the Flatiron Mountains.

Breckenridge Summer Fun Park

Families looking for an adventure should go to Breckenridge Summer Fun Park as there are plenty of amenities that the kids would surely love to ride, such as roller coasters, slides, human maze, zip line, and many others.

Family Night: Good Movies To Watch With The Family

Working as a contractor makes me too busy with work that I sometimes forget to give time to my children. We hold family nights to strengthen our bond. It also helps me keep my mind off work and just relax. Below are some of our family’s favorite movies to watch.

Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo is a classic Pixar movie. I enjoy it as much as the kids. It has a good story, and the movie is focused on a dad-child relationship so it’s kind of a good reminder for me as well.

The Harry Potter series

We once had a Harry Potter themed family night. We watched all 8 movies in the span of a month. It was fun because we looked forward for our next family night after each movie.

How to Train Your Dragon

If your kids love adventures, this one is a must to have in your collection. It has good humor and good moral story. The scenes are also great enough for adults to enjoy.

Up

Another Pixar classic – you won’t go wrong with Pixar movies. This movie makes me think of my retirement every time we watch it. My son Tom, loves this movie.

Dad matters: Why father-and-child relationships are important

Fatherhood does not stop in procreation. In fact, it is the start of a long journey full of challenges. Stereotypes about (young) fathers exist until today. People think they are immature, lacking compassion, or downright lazy. However, fathers play a very important role in the development of their children. Here’s why.

Fathers are a figure of discipline and care.

Children who have an excellent relationship with their fathers are less likely to rebel when they’re older. They know that their fathers are watching over them, and they dislike the thought of disappointing their parents. Children with involved fathers also have a higher sense of self-esteem and good academic achievement.

Fathers influence relationships.

Ever heard of the term “daddy issues?” Women who did not have a great father figure while growing up sometimes end up looking for attention from someone who treated them like their father—abusive or disinterested. Men who grew up without fathers are most likely to be abusive or looking for multiple partners. However, those who experienced the love of their fathers value relationships more. Women will look for a partner with the same traits like their father, and men will treat their family with care and respect.

Fathers bring encouragement to their children

While having a mother is something that should not be overlooked, the involvement of the father encourages the child to do better. Dads encourage their kids through play, stories, and even just their mere presence. The fact that children know their dads are around gives them courage and faith that is immeasurable.

Family activities for the fall season

For some people, fall is the most beautiful season. Falling leaves, the chill in the air, an auburn hue all over the city, and soft breezes that playfully turn to sudden gusts – fall is indeed sleepily romantic. And yet, ‘tis a season not just for lovers; parents and their brood can figure into the season as well. Here are some great ideas for family ideas during the fall season.

Fall festivals

Fall festivals are a hit with the kids. They offer several fun activities that everyone (especially children) can engage in and learn from – from apple picking, to pumpkin carving, to arts and crafts workshops. Almost every town in the United States has its own version of a fall festival. Programs and activities may be different, but they all have one thing in common – they’re all fun for the entire family.

Halloween

This is arguably the third favorite annual event for kids next to their birthdays and Christmas. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for parents and children to decorate their homestead and think of ways to scare trick-or-treaters. Parents can also scope out family Halloween events and come up with matching costumes for the occasion.

Thanksgiving

This is usually the last major event before the winter season. As opposed to the first two events on this list, Thanksgiving is more toned-down. But make no mistake about it, Thanksgiving is an event for the entire family. Relatives return to their home town to be with their loved ones. Children get to see uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents. It may not be as fun-filled as other events, but it is meaningful, to say the least.
